TINGKAT BURNOUT ATLET REMAJA YANG MENGIKUTI KOMPETISI SECARA INTENSIF
Abstract
Burnout is a common psychological condition experienced by adolescent athletes who are involved in intensive and continuous competitions. This study aims to identify the level of burnout and the contributing factors among adolescent athletes actively participating in competitive sports. A descriptive quantitative approach was used, employing the Athlete Burnout Questionnaire (ABQ), which consists of three dimensions: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced sense of personal accomplishment. The study sample included 60 adolescent athletes from various sports disciplines who had participated intensively in competitions for at least the past year. The results showed that 48.3% of athletes experienced a moderate level of burnout, while 28.3% were classified as having a high level, particularly in the dimension of emotional exhaustion. Major contributing factors included competitive pressure, lack of recovery time, and limited psychosocial support. The analysis also revealed that athletes with lower intrinsic motivation and limited competitive experience were more vulnerable to burnout. This study concludes that burnout among adolescent athletes is a critical issue that must be addressed through a systematic approach involving balanced training, psychological support, and the development of adaptive coping strategies. The findings are expected to serve as a foundation for the development of youth athlete programs that focus not only on achievement but also on long-term mental well-being.
