EFEKTIVITAS LATIHAN FUNGSIONAL DALAM MENINGKATKAN KESEIMBANGAN DAN KOORDINASI PADA LANSIA
Abstract
Declines in balance and coordination are two major factors that increase the risk of falls in the elderly. One potential intervention approach to address this issue is functional exercise, a form of training that mimics daily life activities. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of functional exercise in improving balance and coordination among older adults. The method used was a quasi-experimental design with a single-group pre-test and post-test. A total of 30 elderly individuals aged 60–75 years from a senior community in Kota Uara District, Gorontalo Province, participated in a six-week functional training program, conducted three times per week. The instruments used were the Berg Balance Scale (BBS) to measure balance and a simple motor coordination test to assess coordination ability. The results showed a statistically significant improvement in BBS scores and coordination test results after the intervention (p < 0.05). This indicates that functional exercise can enhance postural control and improve motor integration in the elderly. Therefore, functional exercise can be considered an effective non-pharmacological intervention to maintain mobility and prevent fall risks in the older population.
