Sports Massage; Student Perception; Professional CompetenceAbstract
Sports massage learning is an important component of physical education programs as it serves as a supporting competence for students, particularly in the aspects of injury prevention and physical recovery. However, the effectiveness of this learning is strongly influenced by students’ perceptions of its relevance and benefits for professional needs. This study aimed to analyze the perceptions of Physical Education students toward sports massage learning as a supporting competence. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed involving 72 students of the Physical Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. Data were collected using a perception questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, covering aspects of material relevance, learning process, skill usefulness, and learning motivation. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics. The results showed that students’ perceptions of sports massage learning were categorized as positive, with 81.95% of students stating that the learning was very beneficial and relevant to professional needs in the field of physical education. In addition, students perceived that sports massage learning improved their practical skills, self-confidence, and readiness to support physical education activities and sports practice. Therefore, sports massage learning plays a strategic role in strengthening the professional competence of Physical Education students and should be maintained and further developed within the curriculum.
