Abstract

Agility is one of the physical fitness components that plays an important role in supporting the effectiveness of attacking techniques in pencak silat, particularly in performing straight kicks. One form of training commonly used to improve agility is agility ladder training. This study aimed to determine the effect of agility ladder training on the frequency of straight kicks in pencak silat among tenth-grade students of SMA Terpadu Wira Bhakti Gorontalo. This study employed an experimental method with a one-group pre-test post-test design. The research sample consisted of 30 students selected using a simple random sampling technique. The research instrument was a straight kick frequency test conducted for 10 seconds using a stopwatch with a punch box as the target. The treatment was an agility ladder training program conducted for six weeks with a frequency of three sessions per week. Data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed an increase in the mean frequency of straight kicks from 16.37 in the pre-test to 20.33 in the post-test. The hypothesis testing results indicated that the calculated t-value (19.85) was greater than the t-table value (2.76), indicating that agility ladder training had a significant effect on increasing the frequency of straight kicks in pencak silat. Therefore, agility ladder training can be recommended as an effective and practical training method for pencak silat learning and coaching in the school setting.
