Abstract

The preservation of Zapin Pecah Dua Belas Dance is challenged by the declining interest of young people and the limited emphasis on character values in existing training practices. This condition creates a need for an educational program that integrates dance techniques with the cultivation of Malay cultural values. This community engagement activity aims to equip participants with dance skills while fostering religiosity, discipline, politeness, and togetherness through a character-based learning approach. The methods included preliminary observation, material preparation, routine training sessions, character mentoring during practice, and evaluations using interviews and assessment sheets. The results indicate improvements in participants’ mastery of movement patterns, ethical behavior during practice, and understanding of cultural values embodied in the dance. Participants also demonstrated more active involvement and increased confidence throughout the sessions. The activity concludes that combining dance training with character education is effective in supporting cultural preservation and youth development at the Sanggam Melayu Studio.
