Abstract

This study examines the use of explanatory text development patterns. This study aims to describe the explanatory text development patterns used in students' writing assignments. This study uses a descriptive method with a descriptive approach. Qualitative research related to explanatory texts in the form of the use of causality development patterns and chronological development patterns in writing explanatory texts. This study obtained data from writing assignments from the implementation of Indonesian language learning in grade VIII with the theme "Interesting Story Sequences in Explanations". The results study This is: (1) there is 123 the quote that related by using the explanatory text development pattern in writing learning assignments student Of the 123 citations, 109 citations were found regarding the use of causality development patterns and 14 citations regarding the use of chronological development patterns. (3) Of the 31 students in class VIII A, there were 26 students who used causality development patterns and 5 students who used chronological development patterns. (4) From the results of this study, the author can conclude that in the learning task of writing explanatory texts for class VIII students of SMP Negeri 15, Jambi City, in the 2021/2022 academic year, students were more dominant in using causality development patterns where There were 109 quotations from 26 writing assignments by eighth-grade students. This indicates that students found it easier to use the causal development pattern, where the composition of explanatory texts prioritizes cause and effect elements.
